WinXP WindowsExplorer (aka FileManager) can rename a bunch of files sequentially but you would be hard pressed to find any instructions for this process! How to Batch Rename Multiple Files in WinXP
While I agree with Tim, trying to change file names using a script could be quite dangerous I did stumble onto something quite interesting and possibly useful
